We are looking forward to celebrating our big day together, but we also hope that this is a chance for you to explore what we love about Viroqua and Wisconsin's Driftless area.
First, coffee (of course). For the enthusiast, Wonderstate Coffee is a can't-miss favorite. Right next to the Saturday Farmer's Market, a good one for both local growers and artisans.
Restaurants - The Driftless Cafe is exceptional fine dining. Maybe Lately's is a terrific breakfast spot. Just a couple from Viroqua's surprisingly outsized number of options. And we all know this, but there's nothing like a small town Dairy Queen.
We also love to just grab some stuff from the Viroqua Food Co-op for snacks back at the cabin. One of the best co-ops period, and not just for a small town. Nice selection of local beer singles too. The Organic Valley factory store is not far. Lots of Amish farmstands in the area, as you'll see.
Viroqua has 2 great bookstores - Driftless Books and Music is a singular used bookstore. Highly recommended. Its sister store is right downtown - Metaphysical Graffiti.
Also downtown you'll find the Woolly Bear Taphouse, a great spot for a little pitstop. Great beer, friendly folks. If you'd prefer a cocktail, the lounge at the Hotel Fortney has something for you. Footjoy Farm and Brewing in nearby Cashton is worth the drive for good beer, pizza, and it's just plain cool. We hit it every time.
If you feel like getting a little dirt under your shoes, the Driftless does not come up short. Duck Egg County Forest, Sidie Hollow County Park, the Kickapoo Valley Reserve, Wildcat Mountain, Wyalusing State Park, and even Devil's Lake are all within striking distance.
But honestly, one of the best parts of the Driftless is getting from place to place. Sometimes we just pick a destination a ways away and let the route guide us along the country roads and coulees that make this place such a welcome antidote to living in the city. Half the fun indeed.
Hope you enjoy!
